Hypnotherapy: Safe and Effective

Hypnosis is a state of focused attention and heightened awareness.  It is a normal and natural state of altered consciousness.

The truth is that we hypnotize ourselves on a regular basis.  When you don’t realize that someone’s calling your name because you’re absorbed in a Youtube video or when you don’t realize that someone has walked into the room because you’re watching a movie, you’re in a state of hypnosis.  Another example is highway hypnosis which is an altered mental state in which you can apply the brake as needed when driving without any conscious recall of doing so.

Can I be Hypnotized?

Fundamentally, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. It is not something that someone does to you. It is physical relaxation with focused mental concentration. It is an open state of receptivity which you allow. You are always in control and can hear and respond to questions and suggestions during a hypnotherapy session. Afterward, you will remember everything that happened during the session.

Approximately, ninety percent of the population can be hypnotized. The bottom line is that if you want to be hypnotized, you will be. Again, you are in control.

After emerging from an hypnotic trance, you may question whether or not you were hypnotized. That’s not unusual. Sometimes the trance is so peaceful and soothing that you notice the contrast between that state and your normal consciousness. Other times, there may not be much difference. The level or depth of the trance is relative. What matters is that your subconscious heard the message.

How Hypnosis Works

In hypnosis, the rational, analytical, conscious part of the brain is bypassed.  This is the part of the brain that creates resistance to healing and change.  In a trance state, the conscious mind recedes and the subconscious takes over.

The hypnotherapist speaks to the subconscious which is the repository of all of your life experiences, your emotions, and memories.  This part of the brain is open to receive information and experiences that are consistent with your established values and beliefs.  So contrary to popular myth and misunderstanding, nobody can make you say, do or believe anything in hypnosis that you would not say, do or believe in wakefulness.

Highway to the Subconscious

The root of all emotional issues lies in the subconscious which is also the part of the brain responsible for harmony between mind, body and spirit.  It cannot distinguish between the past, present or future.  That means that hypnotic suggestions are accepted as current realities in your life.  From the perspective of your subconscious, your anxiety, fear (name your issue) is healed.  Here and now.  Repetition of that positive message of healing is important to long term success.

Hypnosis is such a rapid and effective clinical tool that it is often called the “highway to the subconscious.”

Hypnosis is Effective

As a psychotherapist who offers traditional talk therapy, one of my beliefs is that the unexamined life is not worth living. However, there is a time and place for everything and what works for one person may not work for others.  If you have tried more traditional therapies with limited success, then hypnotherapy may be a viable option for you.  If you don’t have the time or inclination to pursue traditional psychotherapy, then you may want to try hypnotherapy.

Many issues can be resolved in 2 to 6 sessions.  If you are willing to experience hypnosis, have a strong desire for change and are receptive to suggestions, then your experience will be positive and successful.  You will quickly transform your thinking, behavior, and perceptions and make lasting change with ease.  You will clear trauma, tap unused skills and abilities (or enhance existing ones), dispel fears and limiting beliefs.  You will facilitate healing in mind, body and spirit to dissolve dis-ease and distress to create a positive fulfilling life.

Hypnotherapy is a safe, noninvasive treatment which has no known downside, no known negative side effects. It is endorsed as a clinical tool by both the American Psychological Association and the American Medical Association.

Past Life Regression: Powerful and Transformative

Stubborn issues in otherwise fulfilling relationships and irrational fears that seem to have no source are often rooted in past lives. The origin of trauma, phobias, compulsions, guilt, anger, grief can sometimes be found in another lifetime. So, too, relationship, emotional, physical and financial issues are carried with us as we travel through time. All of our experiences since day one of our existence are with us at all times.

The goal is to discern how the past, no matter how far back, is still affecting the present so that appropriate changes can be made in the here and now to make the current life more fulfilling and rewarding. The current life can be viewed with more objectivity within this long term perspective and context.

Accessing the Past

Hypnotherapy is used to take you back in time so that you can retrieve memories and experiences typically inaccessible to the conscious mind. These memories and experiences of the past are often the root cause of current life patterns. These positive or negative patterns affect our behavior, motivations, relationships and even our physical health.

In hypnosis and with me as your guide you will experience each past life directly through your own senses. That is, you may see images as in a movie, you may smell freshly baked bread or smoke from a fire, you may hear music playing or recognize a familiar voice. Other times, you may just get a feeling that a certain event happened in another place or another time.

The Experience

Whatever the sensory experience your subconscious is communicating with you. And, that is what’s important. Your subconscious reveals what you’re ready to deal with in order to improve your current life. Each piece of information is relevant to you. It is a part of your self that is coming into your consciousness to enrich your life.

Some people are skeptical that what they experience is actually a past life. They think their imaginations may be at work creating stories.

Quite frankly, it doesn’t matter. All you need is a little curiosity and receptivity to hypnosis. PLR is a viable therapeutic tool for self-exploration. You do not have to believe in it in order for it to work for you.

The Process

A typical PLR session is two hours. You are aware throughout and you are able to answer questions as I guide you through this adventure. All you need to do is relax and just go with whatever comes up. Whatever your subconscious presents to you during PLR requires your attention. It is the experience of receiving information in this particular way that makes PLR so powerful.

The benefits of PLR include:

  • Developing your full potential
  • Making peace with your past
  • Unlocking hidden talents and abilities
  • Knowing your life purpose
  • Diminishing the fear of death

Psychotherapy

Do you want to FEEL BETTER?...about yourself?...your relationships?...your life? Psychotherapy helps.

We are creatures of habit more than anything else And most of us spend our days on the proverbial hamster wheel, Going round and round, engaging in the same behavior, mired in the same feelings, making absolutely no progress toward our goals. We are stuck but can’t identify why.

Psychotherapy helps you get unstuck. It’s about identifying the thoughts, values, and beliefs that create the behavioral and emotional patterns that keep us stuck.

The first part of the psychotherapeutic process.... is coming to an awareness of the patterns in our lives. If we’re not aware of what we do or why we do it, those habitual patterns keep creating the same scenarios over and over again. It may be a different time or a different place with different faces, but the emotional landscape will be the same.

Psychotherapy helps you discern options and there are always options. It is not necessary to repeat patterns. We identify the options and help you decide which one will work for you. We talk about which choice you are most willing to implement in order to improve your life. Making conscious decisions is the second part of the therapeutic process.

There are many treatment options in psychotherapy. I treat individuals, couples and families and am able to help with any of the following:

Anxiety, fears, phobias                                   Addiction
Depression                                                      Codependency

Psychotherapy gives you freedom

From past unconstructive patterns so that you can make conscious, aware choices about creating the life that you really want.

Psychotherapy helps you feel better

At least, that’s the report that I’ve received from the vast majority of clients who I’ve worked with over the past 20 plus years.

Talking about your depression

Spouse, anxiety (whatever) with an objective professional who has your best interest at heart helps.

Receiving feedback, helps.

I’m active in sessions and give my clients feedback. That is, I don’t sit silently in sessions, shaking my head and muttering an occasional ah-ha. My goal is to give you something to think about in between sessions.

My approach with clients is collaborative. Together, we work towards the goals that you set for yourself. Just as I give you feedback, I ask that you do the same with me. I need you to tell me what’s working and what may not be.

Whether I’m working with an individual, couple or family, I use a variety of treatment modalities to maximize the experience for clients.   I tailor the treatment to your needs and situation.

The length of treatment is also up to you.  Some clients come in to address a very specific issue and spend a short amount of time in treatment.

Other clients are interested in personal growth and choose to stay for a while.  They may start with one issue but enjoy the process of uncovering pattern after pattern and find that their lives continue to improve so they stay for their own development.

Give yourself the opportunity to feel better about who you and what you do. Call today for an appointment.

Telehealth

The use of telehealth is gaining popularity and is a viable option for some clients but it isn’t for everyone. It can be useful in a variety of situations given its easy access and convenience but in person treatment is required for more complex symptoms.

I use a HIPAA compliant platform for telehealth in order to maintain privacy and to assure security. The therapist as well as the client needs to have a private space that offers reliable internet connection. Current laws require the client to be located in a jurisdiction where I am licensed which is the State of New Jersey.
